Well, it's true that too many teens are having babies. I was one of them actually. I was with the same person, and have been since I was 16. We always used condoms. I was on and off of different birth controls but had problems with some of them along with PCOS. All it took was for one condom to break and I got pregnant. I have to say though..I believe that I'm more mature and responsible then most people my age..or at least at the time. I graduated high school a semester early, started college right away, busted my butt going to school and working, had my son the second day of my fall semester but did what I had to. I recently graduated college with a four year degree (which only took me four years). I also worked and made sure I took care of my son. I lived in an apt and kept that up as well. I will say I was incredibly busy. My son's father and I just got married in May and we are pretty much living happily ever after. I can't take all the credit because he did help when he could. He was in the air force and was gone for a few months at one point but still helped me with paying for daycare and other child expenses.
I can speak from experiance but I'm still amazed that there are so many truly careless teens. I don't think that sex education is taught very well either. I remember having that when I was like 11 and then they only seemed to tell you about a girl and her period and boys and wet dreams.
I think most teens don't think it will ever happen to them and then well ooops it does.
After my son was born I managed to stay pregnant free till my current pregnancy which was planned. My son will be 4 and a half when the baby is born. What I really can't stand is 15 year olds having their thrid child.
One last thing, don't stereotype all teen parents as bad parents. Some are better parents then people in their 30's. Even using caution accidents happen. Yes, there are many who just are stupid but not all.

Hi Im not sure that only abstinence is being taught. My middle school gives out condoms. I dont get them even though Im fighting my own hormones not to go too far with my boyfriend. Maybe I should just in case I lose the battle (lol). From talking to other girls it seems the girls get the condoms more than the boys. Maybe these really arent girls but emo type guys (just kidding). A few girls that I know who have done it say that the guys dont like to do it with a condom and always promise to pull their thingie out before it shoots out any stuff. Maybe the teen pregnancies come from guys who dont get it out fast enough (lol).
I noticed that one person said that its the parents of the girl that have to raise the baby and not the girl herself. My boyfriend's mom is only 29 and he's 13 so she was 16 when she had him. She raises him NOT her mom. In fact she does a really great job. She always knows where he is and oh by the way they know we are a little too close, his mom and my parents so we are very seldom alone. She is a very strict parent.

Me too. What's worse is that they're finding that towns whose schools teach abstinence only sex ed curriculum are having the highest rates of teen pregnancy!

No I don't have a problem with it even though there are unfit parents that are teenagers there are just as much unfit parents that are in there 20's,30's and 40's parents will act the way do regardless of age and quiet frankly your being judgmental.

teens having babies, the old adage "babies having babies", yes it is scary. b/c most of those babies are going to be raised by their grandparents while the teenager gets to go on with life as usual not accepting any of the responsibilities of their actions.

What worries me is that people who preach abstinence will continue to be against educating children about what to do *if* they decide to have sex.
