I have a Bosch 1617EVS router, fairly new, which used to start intermittently, and gradually started less and less often when the switch was thrown. Now it doesn't start at all. Once started, it would run flawlessly.

Any advice is appreciated!

My 1617evs is in pieces on the floor next to me right now at my desk. I bought it in 1998, and it served me well until last winter. I replaced the brushes, thinking that was why it was making weird noises, but that wasn't the problem....I guess. I read some stuff on line, and discovered that the switches on these are the most frequently ordered part, but I have yet to order one. I bought 2 new Milwaukees, as well as a Bosch mini router. 169 dollars lasted me 8 years, so I don't feel too bad about having to look at it lying there on the floor each day....I'll order the little 5 dollar switch one of these days.

That is probably the brushes or a short in the cord, maybe the switch..Radioshack should have a suitable replacement for that if this is the case... replace the cord first.. you can find cheap ones at second hand stores ( or old three prong appliance cords you can find for free).. replacing the brushes can be challenging.. usually new high end power tools come with a set of replacements (black square thingys on springs).. replacing them can be a challenge depending on how inclined you are and how they are placed.. When you buy power tools look for ones that have the access. There will be two flat panhead screws on opposite sides of the body, they are usually large.. the brushes are behind these set screws.. VERY worth the extra money

I'm not aware of any routers that have fuses; I'd be more inclined to think that your router has a short or a loose connection making only intermittent contact. I'd have it checked out before using it again!

I haven't heard of any with fuses. However, it could be the brushes or an open somewhere in the cord.
