Mimosa tree. Large, takes up front yard. Has green splotches on it (a fungus I think) and big gashes.

Mimosas tend to lose vigor and start to develop problems toward the end of their normal lifespan. Rather than spend lots of time, money, and effort on a tree that is probably just about near its end, I'd remove it and plant new ones. They grow very rapidly (sort of a trade-off for their relatively short lifespan), so you should have fairly sizable trees in reasonably short order.

yes you can.you need to get rid of the fungus and fertilize the tree.mimosa is a beautiful tree when in flower and it would be a shame to lose a speciman of that size.this link should be able to help you:
