Because entertainment is seductive. We're willing to put up with advertising in order to watch stupid stuff, even if we've seen it all before just months ago. Sad, isn't it?
Don't get me started on politics and the media. 95% of the population doesn't pay attention, and really doesn't CARE about who gets into office. I've stood in line at my polling place for hours while these types stand in the booth reading the issues and making up their minds ON SITE! Idiots like that have NO business voting for the local DOG CATCHER, let alone people who determine world events!
See what I mean? I'd better stop now.

I avoid being manipulated by the media. I have a TV, but do not have it linked to cable or an antenna (except when there is something important going on in the world like 9/11). We rent and own a lot of movies. When I am suckered into watching TV (like when we are in a hotel), I find myself buying a thousand things like the newest flavor of toothpaste or chips. I highly recommend this lifestyle, because I live my life not the one forced on me by the media.

People have put too much credibility in the news that they see and read, and they don't really question who is reporting the story and the slant that the news people put into a story.
