Why aren't Democrats capable of defending the country?

I read a poll that said most people who sided with Repbulicans cite that they don't trust Democrats to keep the country safe. Why is this? I would guess that if you put a random person in charge that s/he would do everything humanly possible to defend this country against such attacks. So what is it about Democrats that makes them so un-American that people don't trust them with the safety of the country?

Will someone please provide at least an iota of evidence as to why they think this? Maybe I'm a swing voter and need a reason to vote republican... Convince me! These arguments are really quite weak so far =(

btw, political slanders recycled from pundits aren't proof - they only display a lack of individual thought to me.

The question was meant to draw out some kind of response as to why republicans don't trust democrats to protect the country - as such charge could only be made if the persons in question are "un-American". Every person I know who loves this country (democrat and republican alike) would never knowingly allow terrorist organizations attack the US. From the few arguments presented in this tiny thread, I think we can all agree that this argument was cleverly fabricated to appease the minds of those who are most fearful of terrorist attacks.

PS...This is the Democratic idea of a plan..this is as specific as it gets:

That does not sound like a strategy to me....they have no plan....according to their own site they are still treating this like a CRIMINAL problem, not an issue of war and defending ourselves against terrorism.....on the site they do not even mention ANY plans for Foreign Policy.....
Democrats have an established record of being weak internationally as well as weak on crime...they are more concerned with the civil liberties of criminals.......These are not the type we need in office today...we need someone who displays strength...

You could only make such a statement based off of an objective study. Note that you said that REPUBLICANS think that Dems won't keep the nation safe. They have political motivations for saying such things. Find an unbiased survey and see what those results are.

And Democrats are not un-American. I get so tired of people telling me that because I'm a lefty I'm not patriotic enough. This country is founded on the idea of change and rebellion. The fact that I am vocally opposed to certain reprehensible actions of our government shows in my mind that at least I care what we're doing.

Republicans don't have the corner on caring for this country, and I get tired of people trying to make me feel like they do.

Democrat Franklin Roosevelt sat on his behind and played with his stamp collection while Pearl Harbor was being bombed and then he sent over all the US males to invade the beaches at Normandy, killing 70% of them.

Democrat Harry Truman, inbetween holding up a newspaper that said he lost the election, ordred two nukes dropped on Japan. Then He ordered what was left of our boys into Korea

Repubican Eisenhower sent advisors to Vietnam

Democrat Kennedy invented the Green Brets and put them into battle.

Democrat Johnson sent over ALL the boys he could find to fight the war for them, because they weren't doing such a good job.

Republican Nixon pulled us out and now Republicans Bush, Reagan and Bush are negociating to have trade agreements with the STILL COMMIE Vietnamese

Republican Nixon also has his CIA people wiretap the Democrats at the Watergate Hotel and then had eveyr major players in his White House resign over the matter of those illegal actions.

Democrat Carter sent a missioin into Iran to evacuate our embassy by force of Army, unforunately they couldn't fly very well and killed each other in the staging ground before they could it.

Reagan invaded the island of Granade and liberated a teaching hospital from some pubahs. First war we actually won since WWII, of course I think school kids from Columbine could have takne that country over.

Reagon also had Oliver North raising Drug money to finance ILLEGAL wars that congress, in it's wisdom, didn't want fought.

Republicans, of course, are only against Americans using drugs, not against Columbians sellings them to finance clandestine, illegal wars or campaigns.

Why is it all the BIG popular WARS were instituted and won by Democrats and all the little puny battles were done by Republicans!

Why is it every time a Republican makes a war the world is opposed to it and when the Democrats make a war they get ticker tape parades in New York.

Maybe madness or senility? Because none of that makes any feel. For illustration, "independence from executive manage". Who wishes to inform a lady she cant do what she wishes along with her possess frame? Who wishes to inform terminally in poor health persons they cant make their possess finish-of-existence choices? Who wishes to come to a decision what couples can and cant get married? Certainly now not the dems. Its the repubs that desire to manage persons's lives with giant executive.

Do you mean the "Cut and Run Party" ? That is the only strategy they have put forward to date. I guess Kerry learned that from his french friends and the party adopted it in it's talking points.
I do not believe they would do "everything humanly possible" because they are now directed by their extereme left-wing. Just go to moveon.org, kos and read what they say and then you will know why the people don't think they are capable. Would you give them the chance?

no idea. but Bush is a democrat, right? after all, it was on his watch that nearly 3,000 were killed by terrorists. he might be trusted with the safety of Americans but evidently - the proof is at Ground Zero - he betrayed the trust.
