My best friend was murdered in January. The jerk that killed her was her boyfriend. He had death threats on her and her two children and was constantly beating her. When she was killed she was in the process of moving out. On the stand he admitted to killing her but he blamed it on the WAR and booze. He was given a mandatory life sentence with parole after 30 years. The only reason he has parole in 30 years is beacause the jury said it wasn't premeditated. Is this fair justice??

I'm really sorry for your loss.

If the bf left any evidence that he indeed made death threats against your friend and the kids, then I would have considered the murder premeditated and he should have received the harshest penalty possible under state law.

If she had documented prior beatings that endangered her life, the prosecutor could have also pushed that as an indication that he had ill intentions. He also killed her when she was trying to leave him -- yet another black mark against him.

He can perhaps claim he was just "so angry" that he abused and killed her by accident, not realizing how badly he was hurting her -- but now we're just getting silly, aren't we? (sigh)

The war and booze also are no excuse. No one force-fed him booze, he drank it himself -- so he's responsible for his action. And while serving during a war CAN be traumatic, it's still up to him to get himself help if he's finding he can't cope and is hurting the people in his life. He had ultimate responsibility.

From your description, it sounds like he abused your friend constantly, without remorse, without trying to find help for himself. He apparently viewed her as a piece of property, an object, and punished her when he realized he was no longer in control; murder was the last form of control he had over her.

If these assumptions are correct, I would have locked him up for life, no parole, at a bare minimum.

I know it's the principle of the thing, and she was your friend, so even the possibility of parole for this guy steams you and is like a slap in the face for both you AND your best friend. I understand that, and I think I'd feel the same way.

Realistically, I'm still seeing that the "Manson women" (sentenced to life) have pretty much changed their life in prison, but will most likely NEVER be paroled. Even if this guy mends his ways a bit in jail, based on their situation, it's probable he would never ever get parole anyway.

Is there anything you can do to find out the likelihood of this stuff? And, if far in the future, a parole hearing DOES occur -- are you willing to go in there and testify as to the pain this guy caused and why he should not be allowed out? I don't know your state laws, and it's far in the future, but you can be actively involved in the fight to keep this guy behind bars, in memory of your friend.

the loser should've gotten at least life in prison without parole. that was the worst excuse I heard 've for killing somoeone, He should've gotten the maximum which is either as I said life without parole or better yet the death penalty. I don't believe that it wasn't premediated especially since he kept threatening to kill her or have somebody kill her and the children. i hope when he comes up for parole he's denied it. he deserves the same sentence he gave your friend..my condolences on your loss.

The republicans caused this by sending human beings to Iraq to commit inhuman acts. He saw too much sin and torture in Iraq. I am sorry we live in a country full of Christian Conservative False Prophets. They are brainwashing everybody to believe that torture is o.k... They put alcohol ads on race cars.
If they are truly Christians they will follow Jesus and not the republicans evil agenda.
Sorry once again for my countries evil leaders.

NOPE, but it looks like the best you're going to get. You can only hope that he becomes someone's wife in prison. Then there'll be a little payback. I'm sorry about your friend. it's too bad someone didn't snuff this creep before he killed her.
