Or getting drunk or going to church.

My dad is a chess player - and very good...

What I connect with chess therefore relates back to my early childhood: Endless failure, players are very intelligent and have excellent concentration spans and self-control, you can bore them so much by playing badly and slowly that you have a chance to win 1 game in about 35 (unless they have fallen asleep before you have finished them off),....

Do I need to continue?

I've no opinion one way or the other of someone who plays chess, likes dancing, plays guitar, gets drunk or goes to church.......each to their own.....live and let live.

Playing Chess comes at the top of that list!!
In fact the order you've put it is about right. What have you got against chess? Its a perfectly acceptable game of logic. I'm rubbish at it, but wish I was better.

I don't know. I like chess myself, although I'm not too good at it. I don't see why one can't have more than one activity. I know a guy who plays the guitar and is in a local band. He also is really good at chess and at poker, too.

I don't really get your question...............

I respect someone who plays chess. it takes patience, and smarts.

that is if it is added to a range of activities, It rounds them out.
if they play chess only, and thats all they do,
or if there is any one activity that someone does and thats all, I feel that maybe they are hiding behind that.

its like the food we eat.
I enjoy certain foods, but I eat a wide range.
one food over and over would get dull, no matter how good it is.
