Your going to need a bristle style toilet bowl brush and not
a cloth type. I would put Lysol toilet bowl cleaner
on it and let it presoak for about 1/2 an hour and than scrub
it and than use really hot water and put bleach in the toilet
bowl and scrub it again. Sometimes that powdered comet
cleaner even works just as good after you get that hard
water off. You might have to clean your toilet bowl at
least twice a week to elimate that hard water build up.
It is such a pain but the extra effort will be worth it.

Denture tablets (3) left in over night. Pumice stone if any of ring is left. Sometimes it is necessary to remove the water from bowl. Put on rubber gloves. Take a nail and a small mirror and check to see if all of the holes where water comes out around the rim of the bowl are clogged. Take nail and ream out lime deposits. A chlorine tablet in the back of the toilet will help in the future with lime built up.

I once cleaned a toilet that hadn't been scrubbed in over three years. The wife had passed away and the husband didn't do that sort of thing. I used hydrochloric acid (pool acid) It's nasty, it will burn your lungs if you breathe the fumes and it will eat away the toilet if left too long. If all else fails and you can't afford another toilet, it will work and only costs a couple of dollars. Use with EXTREME caution and flush a lot of water through the pipes afterword.

I ordered the Oxi-Clean Ka-Boom toilet bowl cleaner and was absolutely astonished at how easily it removed a HUGE hard water stain in a toilet of a house I just moved into. I had tried lots of other products and applied tons of elbow grease, to no avail. I've also used their Never-Scrub ever since finally getting it clean and I've never had to clean the toilet again. It really keeps hard water stains from ever reappearing.

I use "The Works" bowl cleaner. Leave it in all day if you're going to be away from the house. But if the water level is slightly below the ring in the bowl [it happens] then you might want to send away for one of those ring removers [an abrasive pad on a stick] from The Vermont Store.

There is a bowl cleaner that will get that right out. It's not a liquid, it's more like a pumice stone. It doesn't scratch the toilet bowl either. You can find this in any store. I don't know the name of it. I recommend buying rubber gloves when you use this.

Put 2 Alka Seltzer tablets in and let them fizz up. The ring will come off with no problem.
