I have a 250 gallon pond, and I am wondering how many inches I should expect to lose per day due to evaporation.

I live in KCMO, I believe it is zone 5. Some days it has been 80 degrees, other days have been 60. The pond is oval shaped with one end being larger. We do get alot of wind being that we live in the country. But even on very cool days, I still see the same amount of water loss.
Thanks!

In addiition to the other answers, wind also has a very big effect. If you live in a state with a lot of wind, it can evaporate water quickly.

Why not just buy a float valve and connect it to your water supply to keep the water level?

Normal evaporation is anywhere between 1/2" and 1" a day depending on temperature. You could also lose a little more if your pond is in full sun all day, or if it's a shallower pond.

No way to answer that as it depends on the water and air temperature, the current humidity level in the air and if you get rain or not.
Your water loss / gain can vary greatly day to day.

There are tons of factors that will change the volume of evaporation.what size ,shape color is the container? Is it hot weather or cooler? Is there high humidity? Is it sunny or overcast? Only a gallon or two on average.sounds like you have a leak sorry

Depends entirely on the air temperature.

there are many atmospheric conditions that need to be considered, to answer your question.. not the least of which would be the ambiant temperature and relitive humidity in the environment that the container of water is in..
