i never replace a car until repair costs and frequency of repairs becomes a problem. currently, my 1993 nissan is purring along with almost 140,000 miles

Only two reason (1) you want a knew vehicle (for better gas mileage, sex appeal, to get the newer toys) or (2) it starts to cost more to maintain the old vehicle than it does to buy a new one. Most folks find that about 7 years is the point when that starts to happen (unless you are handy and fix a lot of things yourself).

most americans say they replace them because they fear reliability concerns as the car gets older, but really its because they want a new car because the old one gets boring.
My parents replace cars every ten years, whether they need to or not, and i have inherited this trait.

Number one in my book is : DEPENDABILITY... I have places to be... If I can't trust the vehicle then it's outta here...
