the most succesful countries in the world are all social democracies i.e denmark, norway, sweden.
they have the lowest crime, poverty, inequality and just general better standards of living. The only downside is that they pay more taxes.

The best kind of government is a benevolent monarchy.
Problem is you can't count on that more than once in a blue moon.
Socialist governments do and don't work depending on how they are run. The best ones are democratic.
Democracy is a tricky word. A benevolent monarchy is democratic of most people consent to it, as is a malevolent one if most people accept it and don't rise up against it.
But I think the best government is either a direct (modern technology might make this possible again) or highly decentralized representative democracy where a supermajority is required to pass a law, and a simple majority is required to repeal a law.
