Me and my best friend have decided to dress up from the 80s for Haloween. The only problem, we were both born in early 90's. We have no clue what to wear and we want it to look real and like we actually know what we are doing. Please someone that remembers how to dress from the 80s please help us. We're lost! Thanks

Enormous shirts (preferably with shoulder pads. Just go to the fabric store or craft section of your local whatever-mart store and buy some if you can't find a shirt with enormous shoulder pads.) Tiny pants. Like, leggings. Especially with stirrups. Big scrunchy socks--better if you wear two pairs of contrasting colors (like, blue and red on one foot and red and blue on the other foot. I'm serious.) Scrunchies in your hair or banana clips (those claw things will do in a pinch. Ha! Pinch! I made a pun!)

Neon colors, or the best combo--red, black, and white. Jelly shoes are a nice touch, or high-tops, or even pumps with socks. Mmmmmm! Or Chuck Taylors--high-tops and be sure to wear big fat laces in a contrasting color (like black shoes with fat hot pink laces.)

Check out some 80s movies if you get stuck--The Wedding Singer is very accurate, though it wasn't made in the 80s. Or Sixteen Candles or Pretty in Pink or, oh! Oh! The Breakfast Club! Anything by John Hughes.

I can't believe we thought we were cool. I was very young and stupid at the time, but...it doesn't seem like much of an excuse when I look back. You will look like an absolute doofus and it'll be funny and crazy and you'll look awesome, dude! Radical! Ha.

Well, I was also thinking of dressing up as someone from the 80's for Halloween. What I would recommend wearing is an off the shoulder dress with a pair of bright colored pointy toes heels, big poofy hair with over exaggerated make up. I hope these suggestions help, oh and for ideas, watch the movie Flash Dance, totally 80's. Oh! Don't forget the leg warmers.

I love this picture, because it personifies the 80's dressed up style:

You take a woman's blouse (any outrages color) and put an extra large man's collar shirt (again any outrages color even if it clashes) over the top of the blouse. Starch the man's shirt so the collar can stand straight like in the picture, and bend only ends slightly. You then wear a very fat belt or a sash over the top of that shirt--nope it does'nt loop into the pants.

Pants should be tight. You can go with stonewashed jeans, spandex (the more colorful the better), or tight fitting parachute pants (if you can find one--they're very rare these days). The jeans should be tight rolled at the bottom so that the rolled up part is small and is snug to your leg.

Shoes, if you go with sneakers, make sure the socks are colorful and scrunched down as close to the shoes as you can get them without rolling them down. High heels should be pointy--very pointy and very high--platform shoes were blah! and went out in the 70's--so don't go there.

Hair, if can make it look like one the picture, go for it. If not try coloring it pink, or purple or match the color of your blouse. Side pony tails can work, or you can rat it up and put streaks of color in it. You can put color ribbons or bows in your hair too, just make two pony tails.

Make up: If you want to go all out then you will want to go almost gothic with the make up. The only difference with 80's make up and the gothic look of today is that the 80's was more colorful--don't use black at all--use dark reds, purples, pinks, or match a color on a piece of clothing that you wear.

If you wanna go crazy check out madonna's clothes and make up through the 80's especially '84 and '85
Or check images of Cyndi Lauper. These two were pop diva's of the time, they actually set the style for teenagers and young women.

I graduated from high school in '82. I'll try to help. Take an old sweatshirt and cut the neck out of it to let it fall down over one shoulder. Wear a black sports bra under the sweatshirt. It's okay if you can see it under your shirt. Here is a link where you can see the style: http://www.mikorussell.com/fashion/jenna02.jpg
This season has seen a return of leggings. Get black leggings...they are inexpensive at some retail stores...and put them under the big baggy sweatshirt. The sweatshirt needs to come down to where a micro-mini would fall. You can put big belts over it to show off your waist. If you want to wear a leather skirt or denim skirt you can....if you have skinny leg jeans, you can wear them also. Now, you need some leg warmers...a bright color if you can find them...check at local thrift stores for this stuff, too.....it will save money. If you can't buy them, just cut up some of your dad's or brother's old athletic socks and use them...cutting the feet out of them will allow them to be pushed up and bunched. You are going to need some brightly colored scarves, too. Put them around your hair and tie a big bow on top. You'll want to fluff your hair as much as possible....big is better when it comes to 80's hair. You can use modern styling items to get it really puffy, or you can try "teasing" your hair. Someone should be able to show you how to do that. Here's a link to see the hairstyle:

Finally, the make-up. Go with pinks and blues and lots of gloss and sparkle. Layer the jewelry. For the final touch...chew lots of gum and have a blast!

You will need one pair of leggings or tight jeans, high scrunchy socks, a side ponytail or teased bangs and an oversize top preferably neon or print something with lace etc. Jelly shoes or big plastic bangles or earings. Try a thrift shop if anything

high hair....side pony tail...shirts with cut collars, so the shirt hangs over shoulder....leg warmers...banana clips....clips that you put your shirt in on the side.....tight rolling your jeans(its where you roll them tight to your leg, take the extra jean material on your pants, fold over to the side, then roll up your pants from the bottom, over the flap of jeans material you just folded over) and skinny jeans that are in right now. if this doesn't really help, watch vh1, they have a show on there called I Love The 80's

type in 80's fashion in yahoo then click on "images". You'll get some great ideas.
I think it would be fun to go as Prince. He always looked like he was ready for Halloween anyway.

Try getting hold of your mother's yearbooks.

Bandanas rolled and tied around your left jeans leg, Friendship pin - safety pins with seed beads pinned to your shirt or shoelaces. Clunky pewter necklaces with big black beads and puffed hearts. Clunky necklaces with big wooden beads and wooden african animals. Splatterpaint clothes - generally a white outfit with thin lines and drips of multicolored fabric paint flicked on it. Puffed fabric paint t-shirts.
