Lovely! Find a good cook (someone in your family or a neighbor you trust) and ask to learn from them. You have to have a light "hand" with pasty. I learned from my grandmother and my mother. You could also take a class in pastry at your local tech college. Good luck.

Definitely get a book and jump in at home.... After you have gained alittle knowledge of it get out there and find a pastry chef and see if you can spend some time with him/her. No harm in asking !!

If you have an interest in it then you will do great so get a book, get 100 books (library has them for free), read, read, read, do , do ,do.... no experience quite like DOING IT !

There are many ways and many opinions as well... whats fun is YOU get to decide what works well for you and your particular taste in pastries..... remember that sometimes cooking and baking are merely opinion, very few rights or wrongs !

Best Wishes at baking up a storm !!

I'd say get out the cookbook and start baking a
lot of different pastry items. This way when
your ready to take the Pastry program you'll
feel more confident. Another plus is you'll get
to see which item your more likely to like and
continue in the baking industry. Have fun with
your lovely pies, tarts, and other great baking
items. Enjoy, those sweet treats.
