For the soles usually companies do a test which is called "flexing test' and every flex it did will represent a step you walk. And the min flex is around 25 to 30,000. Depending on what compound of the soles is.
Usually they have a test called "rubbing test" for the wearness of soles this machine "Clocking Device" have a pendulum like and swings continously to determined the wearness.
