I want to get a computer for someone for Christmas and they mainly want to use it for internet and they're not very techy so automatically I think I'm going to pass on a Mac.
However, I heard I should wait for the new Vista program. When does it come out, how is it different, what computer brand do you suggest?

I'll be very surprised if Vista is released before Christmas but you never know. Personally I'd say don't wait, the first release of any Microsoft product always has a lot of problems.

Everyone has their personal favourite for manfacturer too. I use a Toshiba Satelite Pro, it wasn't expensive and is a good machine for the money. Also used Dell which were good but had very annoying tech support. Sony are excellent but expensive.

Try buying a computer with the label "Vista Ready" if you wait out until Vista 5 months down the road something out there will be better but if you are concerned about cost wait till Vista comes out but I would stay with the Mac because they take a while to become outdated someone I know has only had three Macs in her lifetime.

If they aren't very technically inclined, I would recommend a Mac. They
are easier to learn, have fewer problems to maintain and hold their resale
value.

Since its easy to get Internet Explorer for the Mac, its even compatible with
the vast majority of web sites. Although there are some viruses that will
effect Macs, the vast vast vast majority do not - they effect Windows only.

The only reason I would ever recommend that anyone get Windows (Vista
or otherwise) is if they are surrounded by other people who know Windows
only and won't get any help otherwise.

Its more expensive, harder to maintain and holds less resale value.

In any case, Vista is the latest release of Microsoft Windows - and like every
previous Microsoft release is months late due to problems.

Many governments (town, state, and European countries) are moving
away from Windows due to licensing costs - usually to Linux. It stays up
longer, has fewer security problems, has smaller maintenance costs, etc.
However, it is harder to learn than a Mac. If your friend wants a minimum
of fuss - there ain't nothin like a Mac - and hasn't been since it came out.

I'm not a huge fan of Windows anymore, but ponder this:

All of the things Windows is coming out with in Vista have been out for years with a Mac.

Who do you think has the most expierience with them?
Vista is coming out in January 2007 for normal consumers; November 2006 for businesses/corps.
Mac OS X Tiger is coming out next year (around April).

If the person likes a lot of personalization, a Mac is probably your best bet, especially for the price.

I would personally wait, since they will probably have the computer for years, you wanna go ahead and get the one with Vista so that they won't be out of date. Just ignore the Mac people, just smile and nod along.

i have been married two times earlier, so i do not care if i do not marry again, yet I gained't say that I "gained't" marry again...it really is not any longer a concern in any respect, yet i prefer to have someone to share my life with... i have been unmarried for a lengthy time period now (the better suited portion of the previous 11 yrs) so i'm mushy with it only being me, if it truly is how some thing of my life is going...I easily have acquaintances and kin and pastimes, so it isn't in any respect boring (yet often times it receives lonely)...
