I'm not sure who told you that you need a UV light for a Central American Boa, but you don't need one. A regular light bulb will work just fine for a Boa Constrictor. They aren't a reptile that requires a U.V. light like say an Iguana does. They get everything they need from the food that they eat and don't need artificial sun in order to digest their food. Just need heat.
I would second the first answerers answer though and say that you can turn the light on when you get up and off again when you go to sleep.

I agree with the person above me.
Snakes are not a type of reptile that needs UV rays in order to be healthy. The reason for UV light bulbs is so that some reptiles get the important Vitamin D that helps to keep bones healthy. UV light bulbs are normally used for reptiles that are strictly herbivorous (i.e., iguanas) because they usually don't get enough from the plants that they eat. Carnivorous reptiles, like snakes, should get plenty of Vitamin D from the animals that they eat.
Simply put, a UV light bulb is not required for snakes.

fisher has some good answer... yet I do ask your self why you're turning the lights on and stale ... in the adventure that they opt for darkness it truly is what the hides are for ... you could keep the vivariums temps up round 80 5 degree's @ least @ all cases so by skill of turning off lights are you also turning off the nice and cozy temperature which does no longer be good for the snake nor does do lights prefer to be became off !?! the only time we turn our lights / also warmth off is that if it really is summer & ninety degree's F or better contained in the vivariums, the lights are providing warm temperature, if issues get too chilly the reptile can change into ill which will reason urge for foodstuff loss... & healthy snakes don't have SET feeding cases, some will eat once a week, some another week, some no longer for a month or better devoid of any ill consequences, often times they are going to eat 2 or 3 mice... then no longer eat for some weeks or month as ours often times do - we've a BP, Carpet Python & Rainbow Boa ! Snakes consistently flick their tongues to carry close what's happening round them , to attempt their surroundings... no longer because they are hungry and reptiles do no longer care to be out of their habitats or dealt with a lot regardless of what others allow you to recognize, they are reptiles and continually will be no count what it truly is they don't care to dealt with a lot, etc it truly is between the various stuff i like about them ... if human beings opt for pleasant, handleable form pets they ought to no longer have reptiles, it really is only no longer their way, they tolerate us and are continually finding out to work out in the adventure that they could interrupt out !! And sorry, yet you want to do a touch prognosis, there are a range of unscrupulous sellers obtainable & from i will see of the single you're speaking about ... they'd be truly one of them in the adventure that they stated such issues as turn lights out @ evening, etc & i'm no longer confident you recognize what ur in for with this boa, they get large compared to BP's !!! Take Care
