Look for a serial number inside. If it's a real one the strap will start out a light color and darken with age. Although I agree that the best way to tell if it's a real Vuitton is to take it to a Vuitton store to have authenticated.

I saw a thing on fakes vs. real on the Style network. They said the main clue was: on the seams, real LV bags NEVER have the design slop under the seam. The design is put on so that it lines up perfectly with the lines of the bag, and all the little logo things are complete--no L on one side and V on the other side of a seam. Also, the leather is buttery soft and flexible, the lining is always pricey (and looks it) and the labels and tags and little decorations are always high-quality and don't look sewn on all tacky (they're never glued on.) Plus, they say Made in France. Not China, or Taiwan, or someplace far from Europe.

But like somebody else said, if you have to ask, it's probably fake. But at least you'll know what to look for if you want to buy a nice knockoff. But be forewarned--good fakes can still cost several hundred dollars (but if you compare that to the real ones at a few thousand dollars, I guess it's still a deal.) Don't get too caught up in real vs. fake--just get something cool and love it even if it's not pedigree. Works for dogs and purses.

how much did u pay for it, if it was cheap its probably not real, and is the L on top of the V or is it the other way around? where u bought it from should really tell u if its real or not. i would only buy a purse like that from a place i kno its gonna be real, lyk saks, or foleys, or the Louis Vuitton store.

The LV on the Louis Vuitton bag cannot be cut off to be real. Or you could take it to like Nordstrom and they'll tell you.

The only way for sure is to take it to a Louis Vuitton store. They will be able to help you.

Depends where you bought it and what you paid. The Handles on a real Louis will patina or darken over time.

When you recieved it, did it come with dust bags, reciept and anauthenticity tag? If not, it could be a fake. To be sure so to a nearby Louis Vuttion boutique and they will tell you.

Look on the inside, if it's anything like a Fendi bag, it should have a little metal thing with LV on it or whatever

If you bought it from a major department store...... it's real. If you bought it from LouisVuitton.com......... it's real. Other than that, its probably not. It depends where you bought it if it's real or not. Also, if it was super expensive......... it's real.
