How deep is the Thames at any particular bridge in central London, and how about before it enters the embanked section of London, and then downstream at say the Thames Barrier or the QE2 Bridge. Thanks.

I was actually on a boat travelling from Richmond down to Greenwich just a couple of weeks ago. We were providing safety cover for the Great River Race, and had the depth sounder running. Mid river around Tower Bridge, at pretty much lowish tide it was around 6m. Up at Richmond it was only 2 or 3m.

The markers on the bridges show clearance heights.

Below Teddington the River Thames is tidal and therefore the depth of water is always changing. It is even difficult to state the depth of water at high and low tides as the height of these tides are not the same each time. It depends on whether they are Spring or Neap tides or somewhere in between.

Uh, mmmm,,,,OK, how about giving a phone call (Or visiting, since England is so small) the English version of the Coast Guard and ask to look at their charts. Another way would be to ask a local fisherperson.

This is a pretty hard quesiton- and you've managed to ignore the sandbar that every river has as it enters the ocean- so to get the "latest and the greatest news" I think you should ask your version of the Coast Guard.

'deep' is certainly not any way to describe it. you could walk on it and not get your knees wet put it that way...

but even when its full i still think there's a significantly small amount of water in it anyway its mostly just toxicity, dead pets, bodies, feces & other such torbid, morbid muck
