First, you must contact a commodities broker and open an account, meaning, deposit money.
Generally, trading futures and commodities is not considered "investing." This is a short-term trading game, and if you know nothing about trading, you are at a huge disadvantage. Read books, trade a simulator, paper trade while you learn to see if you can make money before you commit real money. Don't tangle with these markets until you know what you're doing.
You do not want to trade full leverage, especially at first. Just because you can control $65,000 worth of oil with one contract on $1,500 margin, doesn't mean you "should." The swings in your account will be enormous. Here's the difference: put $65,000 in your account and trade one contract, and that would be with no leverage, and shouldn't be any riskier than trading stocks. If you trade 2:1 leverage in stocks (max allowable), that is considered risky. You can trade a 20:1 leverage with oil, but should you?
Learn how to analyze risk, and make this your primary approach, not by compounding profits and erroneously analyzing how much money you can make. For example, most traders don't make any money at all; more than 80% blow out.
Learn about money management techniques, and maybe you'll stick around awhile.
