Yay I love math problems. :)

You need to get A all by itself, of course. First, you start off by adding 14 to each side. That cancels out the -14 on the right side, and leaves you with 18 on the other.

Your equation looks like this: 18 = 3a

Now, to get rid of the 3 on the right side, divide each side by 3.

Now you have 6 = a.

To check your answer, plug the 6 in for a in your equation. Check. 3(6) means 3 x 6, so multiply that together and you get 18. Now subtract 14 from 18, and sure enough, you're now left with:

4 = 4. It checks out. :D

Hope I was of some help!

This is very simple. Here's the answer.

4 = 3a - 14
therefore
4 + 14 = 3a
so 18 = 3a
so 18/3 =a
so a = 6

Check
4 = (3 x 6) - 14
4 = 18 - 14
4 = 4
