you will need:
car seat- the hospital wont let you take the baby home without a carseat
blankets- lots and lots of blankets, never leave home without one
diapers and diaper bag- always take a baby bag, fully stocked extra clothes, diapers, bottles, burp rags, bottles, formula,etc...
stroller
swing/bouncy chair- something that you can put the baby in to get them to sleep or just to free up you hands for a couple of minutes
bottle warmer- early on this was a life saver. at 2am feedings you'll be glad you have it.
Newborn clothes.
Crib/Basonette. Some people like their baby to sleep in their room with a basonette.our baby has always slept in a crib in another room. You will also need a mattress for the crib, along with some baby sheets.
Baby monitors.
Baby wipes.
Pacifiers. Lots of them. so you have a back up if you lose one.
Bottles. If you're going to formula feed, you will need formula as well
Good luck

PATIENCE, PATIENCE, and don't forget PATIENCE.
You can not communicate with a newborn. That leads to frustration when you can't figure out why they are crying, or can't sleep, or won't nurse or eat.
You'll need it most when you and your mate are trying to figure out the division of responsibility when it come to getting up in the middle of the night when the baby is crying.
After you've done everything you can think of to calm a crying baby, there is an urge to strike out at things you can't control. Count to 10!!!
Also, find a local support group for new mothers who are going thru the same things you are. You'll discover the problems you have are not unique, someone else's solutions may help you with some of your problems.
Don't rely on Internet Chat rooms for support, get face to face with other mothers, you need the adult conversation time, too.
You can buy the other stuff.
PATIENCE is PRICELESS!!!

Get the book "What to expect when you are expecting". Read it. For your bottles, go with Dr. Browns. Get one of those thermometers that reads temperature from the ear.

well, you need a mummy and a daddy. when mummy loves daddy very much, they have a special cuddle and mummy gets a big tummy. after 9 months, mummy goes through excruciating pain and out pops a baby.
