Most computer programs are written for the windows platform, therefore are probably written in C, C++ or C # using directX. Most console games are written in C because C is a low level programming language. By low level, I mean that C has access to registers on the cpu and other hardware componets of the CPU and GPU. Each console SDK comes with some libraries that help the programmer do certain things easier. But from what i read, C is the programming language of choice right now for consoles. If you know C, then learning C++ or C sharp isn't much of a jump.

Their C compiler tool was licensed by Sony for resale, and since then Sony aquired them. If you look around there are other homebrew solutions. For the most part Playstation 1 games were developed in c and assembler.
