Well unless parts are very cheap in India, you are going to have a problem because you cannot build a good gaming PC for 250 to 300 American, a CPU and a video card will each cost that much by themselves.

Games use massive amounts of video processing, I'd recommend a separate video card with a minimum of 512meg videoRAM. Many games now require a Pentium IV level processor but AMD processors work just as well as Intel processor for games, some even better. Get at least a 1.8gHz speed CPU.
Search Dell's webpage, they sometimes sell refurbished PC's and Off-lease returned PC's for a substantial discount.
And the next version of Windows, VISTA, will be shipped on DVD, not CD, so you'll need a DVD-ROM to use it. And it will require a separate video card, so you'll already be set for that aspect.

You won't get much of a gaming PC for that kind of money. Today the better video cards can cost that much and more. You didn't say if you're buying locally in India, but assuming that I would check out direct sellers web pages from India. It is my guess that prices would be cheaper, if only because of shipping cost. That said, I would recommend AMD chip for your CPU and ASUS makes a good mother board. Do a search on pcmag.com or pcworld.com for reviews on cheep but good video cards. On board video (video that is built into the mother board) just isn't good enough for gaming. http://www.tomshardware.com/index.html is a good site to do research on. Good luck

Athlons are well named in gaming then get those Asustech, EPOX motherboards then acquires 1024GB of memory, 256MB Graphics card any brand will do... and a 7200Rpm hard drive... the rest can be as simple or try to squeeze in a 17 inch monitor and a sub-woofer....

With a 1000 dollar budget, it may get annoying. yet no longer impossible! i might advise sticking to a workstation (greater value-effective) and additionally in case you could desire to build it your self you will get greater bang on your dollar. Lot's of websites can show you on that and you will get components from newegg. Gaming workstation's are no longer low priced, yet they're completely nicely worth it! reliable success :)
