Why is it...?

Question

....that a lot of people find an anti-hero more appealing than a straight-laced hero? Or a bad guy turned good rather than someone who has always been good? I am talking primarily in a Hollywood setting although it may be true of real life- why do you think this is?

EG, People find bad-*** The Punisher more appealing than nice-boy Superman, for example (not much good if you haven't seen the movies, I know- sorry!), or Spike more appealing than Buffy (apologies again if neccesary!)

It probably has something with us having to be law abiding citizens and wanting to exlpore our dark sides. so we pick the bad boys over the goody goodies. also there are more risks with bad boys, more chances of naughtiness, trust me, that's very appealing!

I must be a bit weird then because I don't find any bad guy turned good a hero, look at the likes of people like Pete Daugherty and Kate Moss, what sort of example are they giving to the kids growing up, that its fine to do drugs because you become even more popular overnight for having your face splashed in the papers with white powder round your nose, Mike Tyson raped a women and people think hes a god, well sorry not me, those sort of people are the lowest of the low and will never have my hero worship, give me the true blue hero any day, because hes honest.

Probably because good guy's are too clean cut with one purpose eg take on the supervillain. They are too far removed from your average guy in the street. Anti-hero more people can relate to as they can see something of themselves or something they would like to do in the anti-hero persona.

a girl feels protected and safe wit a bad-boy and also bad-boys can be more mischievous.!!
