We oil the cabinets twice a year to keep the wood from drying out. Over time the areas on the doors where you grab to open them get soiled. How can I clean up the dark areas but not ruin the wood?

I clean the cabinets with mineral spirits (paint thinner) and 0000 steel wool.Wipe them down and apply lemon oil not lemon oil furniture polish let as much of the oil soak in and polish with a soft cloth. Good Luck !

I would not use oil on the cabinets. Some of the oils can flake the finish especially if it has a lacquer finish. I found that a product called Guardsman Furniture Polish and/or Guardsman Furniture Cleaner are excellent cleaners and polishes. They are available on the web from this company and are about $3 a can for a 12.5 oz.

For one thing, I wouldn't oil cabinets that often. But, anyway! Murphy's Oil works great for cleaning wood products.
