sorry sweetie---it's rip and replace time for you.

take this as an opportunity to replace the wood with some treated wood so you won't have this problem again.

also, while you're ripping---keep your eyes open for any other areas that may need attention.

then replace any bad wood with a treated wood---use a couple of tubes of caulk around it if you need to and you're good for another 40 years or so.

Once something is dry rotted there is nothing you can do to fix it. You need to replace the lumber that is affected. Chances are your dry rot may spread to other parts of the lumber even if you cut it out.

It has to be replaced but if its a small patch and not very deep sometimes you can scrape it out and paint to seal it.

dry rot is just that ROTTEN... and it isnt good for anything... replace it....
