is it dehydration synthesis or hydrolysis?

Dehydration synthesis combines, and hydrolysis breaks up. In dehydration synthesis, molecules become covalently bonded to each other by the loss of a water molecule. Hydrolysis is when a molecule is split in two parts by reacting with water. One of the parts gets an OH- from the water molecule, and the other part gets an H+ from the water.
