Hi!
They say that the brain can manifest "real" bodily pain when overwhelmed emotionally. Those who have ever suffered from depression may tell you that their joints ached. Or someone who is totally stressed out may get a headache, etc.
They say that our brain can even read other peoples pain... and translate it into an empathy pain. For example, does the spot in between your legs ache for a second when you see a man get kicked in the groin really, really hard? (not on TV, but in person)
I think it is the same with the heart/chest. I think when you are really sad, this is where your body manifests your emotional pain. It is not just your heart, it is also your stomach. It clenches up too, which is why you don't get hungry when you are really, realy sad... and sometimes might even get "sick with grief".
Just my thoughts on it.
:)
Best Wishes...
T.

Your heart aches because you care. We are all humans at the end off the day and no matter how much we hate to admit this, its those that we care about most that always betrays and destroy us. Even though they never done it purposely it still hurts and nothing can justify why they were so inconsiderate. in many cases this is down to not thinking about the consequences.

The is a scientific and as well as spiritual answer to that question. Scientifically, research has shown that all emotions and feelings are hormone driven including the base desires of hunger and thirst. When we love someone there are endorphins that are pulsing through the blood stream. When that love is rejected the endorphins are decreased and there is an "ache". Those are similar to the endorphins that are released during and after a strenuous workout. Spiritually, God wired us to desire relationships with others. When those relationships are "broken" the hardwiring that God put in us is tested and therefor an "ache". My best suggestion to anyone with relationship questions is to read "The DNA of Relationships". It is awesome and very enlightening.

did you know they found an organ very small right next to the stomach. Its what gives you that sinking feeling when your heart aches........and its real. It makes it feel like everything in your abdomen just pulled into its shell to hide.

because once you let someone into your heart, then they have the power to hurt you. But once you move on, it hurts less. Just all part of life...

I've often wondered this myself. I don't understand why we can't just tell our brains to stop thinking about the person & what they did.
