You didn't mention where you live, but there might be a family shelter you can stay in for a while. My husband and I split up for about 7 months almost 10 years ago, and that's where I stayed with my son; he was very young at the time. We had our own room and tons of privacy. The only things we had to share were the bathroom, the living area and the refrigerator with three other families. We all had chores to do, even the little ones, and it was a great experience.
If I had to, I'd only go back to a family shelter. I was afraid like you are, I didn't know what to expect, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I got to know the other familes and their children, and I was fed like you wouldn't believe. Lots of local churches fed us for once a month, gave us clothes and toys; at Christmas, someone dressed up as Santa and gave out toys to the children, we had got special passes where we could spend a night out of the shelter.
The shelter also had rules too.,We had to be in the building at a certain time, the children had to be in bed at a certain time, no foul language, no physical discipline, no theft, no loud music, no visiting in each other's rooms, no sexual relations between residents who were not married to each other. We weren't allowed to speak to the single people who lived there also, but that one was broken all the time.
Check it out before you leave. I'm sorry your marriage is breaking up. You should also check out www.mydivorcestory.com. It's a website started by a woman who comes on here and answers questions, and it's dedicated to women who are going through divorce. Even though I'm not getting a divorce, I joined anyway.
Good luck to you and your children.

I will pray for you today. Being that you are married do not leave your home because of the kids. Go to the legal Aid and get representation. They may help you with the divorce and help you to stay in your home. Therefore you will not have to leave although they may make him leave. Going to the shelter is not the answer to our problem. I hope you the best. I will pray that God will provide you your own home.

I just prayed for you.I have been in the shelter before and it's terrible.Do yourself a favor go sign up for HUD and save as much money as you can.Pretend everything is fine and then one day when he is at work pack everything really fast and let him come home to an empty house. The next stop would be court house to obtain a restraining order.Hope everything goes your way.God bless.
