It is difficult to say, for sure. Really, the problem is not the amount of homework as much as it is the COORDINATION of the homework assigned by the teachers. If there were communication among the teachers in, let's say a teaming situation, then they could see to it that students had on average an amount of homework that would be reasonable. That way students would not have no homework one night and four hour's worth the next. Also, there are some long-range assignments, including projects, which could be assigned reasonably so that all would not be due the same day
I think 1-2 hours AT MOST should be assigned to an 8th grade honors student. That way the kid can have some time to socialize and/or to relax and enjoy a hobby, television and life in general.

No more than 1 1/2 hours a day. I read in an article that if a middle schooler is doing more than that, it's not helping them at all. So I say anything under about 1.5 hours is good.

i dunno but im an 9th grader in honors too and i have around 1 hour to 2 hours a night for honor classes and about 15 minutes for all other classes.
Last year ther was never so much work. I think that my work is a bit too much
