Turbo Charger - An exhaust powered turbine super-charger. Turbochargers always use centrifugal-flow compressors, which operate efficiently at the high rotational speeds produced by the exhaust turbine.
The turbocharger was invented by Swiss engineer Alfred Buchi, who had been working on steam turbines. His patent for the internal combustion turbocharger was applied for in 1905. Diesel ships and locomotives with turbochargers began appearing in the 1920s.
Turbochargers were first used in production aircraft engines in the 1930s prior to World War II. The primary purpose behind most aircraft-based applications was to increase the altitude at which the airplane can fly, by compensating for the lower atmospheric pressure present at high altitude. Aircraft such as the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and B-29 Superfortress all used exhaust driven "turbo-superchargers" to increase high altitude engine power. It is important to note that turbosupercharged aircraft engines actually utilized a gear-driven centrifugal type supercharger in series with a turbocharger.

a turbo charger is a turbine like device which is located near the exhaust of the cylinder in an engine.the exhaust gas comes out of the cylinder moves the turbine fins of turbocharger which through other fins at other end of turbo charger sucks in the fresh air and this extra fresh air goes into the cylinder along with the air and fuel mixture which increases the performance of the engine.

Turbocharger is a device which uses the exhaust gases of the engie to drive a blower which supplies air to the engie for scavenging as well as combustion. If the combustion air supply to the engine is increased, then power extracted from the engine also increases as compared to engine of same dimensions. By compressing the air the mass of air is increased as mass is directly proportional to pressure for gases. Excess air supplied should be ideally 3 times more than the fuel supplied. It has basically two parts, one ir turbine and other one is a blower/compressor. Turbine could be radial or impulse type.Waste exhaust gases drive the turbine, which in turn drives the compressor and compresses the air and supplies it to engine. In 2 stroke engines this air supplied, removes the exhaust gases, which is called as scavenging.

Turbo charger is when the engine uses its exhaust gasses(like a hairdryer) forcing more air through the engine intake. This achieves better performance and fuel economy when not in use.
It dumps more fuel/air into engine to give it more horsepower.

It is a turbine driven by exhaust gas that acts as an air pump. This pumps air into the engine when extra fuel is added to the mix this gives an increase in engine power.Regards MIck UK.

Its a device that forces air into your engine so that it accelerates quicker. Its more stressfull on your engine and makes it consume more gas than normal.
