Hi, i spilt up with an ex girlfriend whom i now have a 9 yo son with, but i have started thinking recently he isnt mine. we got back together when she was 5 months pregnant and split again when the boy was 3. you see the thing is the boy doesnt look like me or my ex but he does look like one of my ex's male friends! what should i do, as i am paying maintenance for him and he may not be mine? should i get a dna test? if so where do i start looking for one?

yes i do love him, but we have never been close in a father son sense, i see him once every 2 weeks and he doesnt call me daddy!
I think this is due to my ex's belief that he isn't mine, as she was the one to put the doubt in my head in the first place!

You should get a DNA test if you have doubts. But if you have been the dad to this boy for 9 years, could you really turn your back on him? Even if you're not the biological dad, you still raised him.

To make this easier on your own heart, YES a paternity test should be done. Ask your doctor on how to obtain one, or your local courts. You'd think you'd beable to get one eaisly if "she" allows you alone time with the boy, and do it without even her knowledge.
IF you continue thinking this boy isn't yours, all it will do is cause heartach for you and the boy.
IF you find out he's not yours, I think it would be best to at least let this small child know you still love him.
It isn't right that your paying maintance if he's NOT yours.
Go get the test.

You know this is a twofold question??? anyhow here goes first of all go tell your doctor you want a DNA test done and tell him why... He should be able to help you get this part taken care of..
Now second my concern is for the child does he think of oyu as his father? if so what are you going to tell him? When you find out that you are not his dad if thats the case? please if he loves oyu like a dad stay in his life all children need to know they are not being abandoned because of biology... Hope this helps

Paternity DNA testing is quite easy and surprisingly affordable. Go to http://www.affiliatedgenetics.com/paternity.cfm for more information. You can have the test performed with a simple mouth swab.
