No paint on roof...straight metal. :(. I can't afford a paintjob right now so is there anything I can spray on it to protect it through the winter? errgg...maybe some ..rustoleum? (that's my last resort)

youll need a permanent rust sealer. Get the 3 steps system by KBS Coatings which includes a good cleaner, a metal etcher & rust sealer. The Rustseal goes on thin & goes along way, probably pint will do. Flows out real nice w/o any brush marks. Apply 2 thin coats.You can topcoat it when youre ready but in the mean time youre totally protected. Ive used it and it works.

If it is money that is the issue, Rustoleum is a GREAT answer. Particularly if it is only for the winter. Use a decent primer, but then cover the primer with the Rustoleum spray. Primer will NOT protect against water.
Be certain to do the job right, even if you are only using spray cans. Several light to moderate coats is far superior to one or two heavy coats.

Rustoleum. is better than nothing.
