Delivery Rooms can vary from hospital to hospital. You will have a hospital gown on during the delivery. They will have monitors hooked up to your belly to check contraction strength and baby's heart beat. They will have a kind of "heater" all set up to put the baby in as well. Don't get freaked out but there will be resuscitation equipment by the heater. There are by all of them just as a precaution. It really isn't too scary.

U will be wearing a gown that is open at the back, u will not have any thing underneath though. The nurses will put a heart monitor on to monitor the babys heartbeat, its a thing that will wrap around your stomach throughout the entire delivery until u push. They will most likely put a catheter in you which will be a very slender long tube they will slide into your urethra. They will do random checking of your cervix to monitor how many centimeters u are dialating. The first few hours will be very long, but u can read or watch t.v or something that u like to do in your free time (while laying down of course). When u reach at least 4 centimeters u will probably have the option of an epidural or not. If u choose to have one done they will take a very long needle and stick a little bit of it into your back near your spine. It does not hurt as bad as people say, it is an uncomfortable pain but nothing u would scream over. It will take less than a minute for u to feel the medicine working. After that u will not feel ANYTHING! from your waist down u will be completely numb. Then u just sit and wait to have your baby. When u hit 10 centimeters they will tell u to push until the baby is crowning, the doctor will then get ready for u to push the rest of the way. U can look at pushing for at least an hour although it seems much sooner than that while u are pushing. If u have cable there is a great show on TLC called a baby story..It shows an entire labor and delivery of women giving birth. Good Luck and Congrats!

Im sure it is different from hospital to hospital, but I had a really nice room which basically looked like a nice bedroom. It had hardwood floors, sofa, tv with dvd, bed, an infant warmer for when the baby is born, bathroom with a tub. And you will not be naked. They give you a hospital gown to wear but obviously you will be naked underneath so they can check you. When it is time to deliver the baby they have this big lamp with a very bright light so they can see, and if you want there is a mirror so you can watch what is going on too. Several hours later they will probably move you out of there and into a regular room which looks like any hospital room with 2 beds, nothing fancy, but big enough for you and your partner to stay in for the next day or so. Hope that helps.

You can check out the link below for a picture and description of the delivery rooms at the hospital where I gave birth to our daughter (see the section titled, "LDR/P All-In-One
Private Room Care). I think you'll find that most hospitals have something like this on their websites. We were also able to tour the labor & delivery floor, seeing the rooms and equipment for ourselves, as part of the childbirthing class we took through the hospital. If you don't take a class through the hospital, but will be delivering there, I'm sure a tour can be arranged.

I wore my own clothes to the hospital and changed into a hospital gown once I arrived there. During my labor and delivery, I wore the hospital gown. For my stay at the hospital, I wore my own clothes.

During the labor and delivery, you will be exposed by necessity. The doctor or midwife and nurses will have to check your progerss regularly and when that happens you will be exposed. You may have the option to be nude, if that will be more compfortable to you... some women choose that route, I didn't.

I think that if you haven't been though labor and delivery before, it would be a good idea to take a child birthing class before the big event. Heck, this was my fourth child but the first time I'd take a class and I learned tons! If you contact someone at the hospital, they may be able to give you information about classes given through the hospital. A lot of the information that we got through the classes we took turned out to be invaluable.

Good luck.

Whether you have clothes on or not will be your choice. I wore the hospital gown. Some women get so hot that they don't want clothes on.
Delivery rooms are all different. Mine was very nice. It had the bed (of course) a recliner (for my husband) a bathroom with a shower in it, and a place with all the stuff for the baby after they're born so that they can do everything they need to do for the baby right there in the same room as you. It was quite large!

I had a birthing suite. Which means that I labored, delivered, and recovered all in the same room. The bed has sturrups under it, that swing out when it is time to push. All I had on was the hospital gown and socks. There was a fetal monitor that also checked the intensity of the contractions, as well as monitors for my BP and pulse. I had an IV in and there was a heater bed for the baby. There was a chair for my husband to sit in while I was in labor. There was a small closet that was between my room and the next room, that had all the sterile equipment and supplies in it. They opened that closet when I started getting ready to push.

you wont be naked, I promise. You'll probably have a hospital gown or your own nightgown on. (Just make sure you don't mind having to throw your own away though.)
Because I don't know what all hospitals look like, I can't make any guarantees, but L&D rooms are very homey nowadays... they're not all white & sterile-looking, like a regular hospital room. The hospital I delivered in had wood floors, soft colors, low lighting (until I actually gave birth)... it was very relaxing. You should call the hospital you plan on delivering at... most of the time they'll be able to set up a tour of the L&D wing of the hospital for you... so that you are more familiar with what your surroundings on your big day. They'll answer any questions you have & most L&D nurses are VERY friendly & really helpful. Good luck!

You're going to have on a hospital gown, but I'm afraid that's it. As a matter of fact, they'll let you keep the sheet over you, too, until it's time to push.

Nowadays, the delivery room is often times the same room that you spend your labor. It's not so bad. I've done it once, and I'm about to do it again in May.

Don't worry. You can request everyone but the docs and nurses to be out of the room, too, if you're not comfortable.

depending on the hospital, you should be able to wear your own gown, a hospital gown or nothing... I wore the hospital gown until it was time to push, (I wanted the baby to be placed on my bare skin asap) In a good hospital, you get to choose whether or not you have the monitors on your belly (unless you show signs that something isn't right.) I hated that stupid one around my belly, I made them take it off. You usually don't need it, they can listen with a Doppler if they are worried....I recommend reading lots and lots of books, so you know your choices.. don't just accept anything they tell you, some hospitals do a lot of unnecessary things...just remember, it is your labor! You get to make the decisions!! good luck :) (if you have anymore ?s feel free to email me!)

It depends on the hospital. The hospital I had my son in was very nice. You aren't naked they leave a gown or at least a sheet over you. At least until the pushing part then you'll only be covered from the waist up. Be sure to wear socks.
