The customers I deal with on a daily basis are extremely rude and hard to deal with. So many times I would like to chew them out for cussing at me and then hang up on them..Why are people so foul in life? Dont they have any other way to talk to people than to cuss scream and holler when they dont get their way? Dont they understand the more they curse they less likely they will get what it is they are seeking?

This is my job so hanging up and being overly assertive is not an option without gettig into trouble. I know I irritate people more than others because when they dont get what they want from me they ask for a supervisor. I dont escalate calls. So when I say no--thats it.

Bless your heart for being in customer service. Unfortunately, by the time people contact your department, they are probable already at the end of their ropes. You have to try not to take it personally. Human nature is to meet force with force, but you have the daunting task of trying to calm the beast. I worked a phone line with customer service and tried to make a personal mental game out of trying to make the person not only calm down but actually to be nice to me before hanging up. I had a great supervisor who taught me some easy steps...First, make the customer understand that you are on his/her side and that you understand the problem. Secondly, try to use the customer's name as soon as you can and then use it naturally throughout the conversation. You become more human to the person and open the lines of communication more that way. Next, try to assure the customer that you will do all that you can to fix / to help / to rectify the situation. Finally, you must also realize that some people are just going to be mean and no matter what you do, they are going to stay that way. Do your job and then hang up and be grateful that you don't have to talk to him/her again.

If you are a telemarketer....well theres your answer. If not, it is due to the decline in morality that has afflicted this country. People, especially impressionable youth, are bombarded with music and television that promote the idea it is ok and normal to disrespect others and that the world revolves around them. I like to refer to this as the " I ME MY" factor. Sad. Each generation gets a little worse. It would be nice if you could make people understand ever how much nicer a place the world could be if people would try to be nice to each other instead of trying to impress everybody with their rediculus " thugness" and such. Courtesy and respect are the lubricant of society.

That's a tough question.. I have a sister that's really rude. She is extremely impatient.
If someone don't do exactly what she asks she calls them all kinds of nasty names. She wants puppets around her not anyone else. Who wants to be a puppet? Not I! I tried it and being a puppet you get trampled on. Maybe some people are rude to ensure they don't be trampled or walked all over.

In business, you just have to put up with those obnoxious
customers since they are "paying" your bills. There are some
people who are just like that, and there are others who are
the kindest to work with. That is just the way people are, and
you have to put up with them.

People are not happy and run on emotions. Just curse back at them and insult something about them like their anatomy or that they have real bad breath.
