I remember the original; with Ian Carmichael and Alastair Simm made in 1960. I thought it an excellent film made in the true spirit of the Ealing years. Naturally it was in black and white and very English and I've not seen the remake but obviously this would have been made with modern audiences in mind. Sadly Hollywood has a knack of ruining things, not letting facts get in the way of the Producer's ideas. The original was taken from a book by Peter Ustinov who co-wrote it jointly with a friend and used assumed names so that the novel could be judged on it's true merit rather than because it was written by a famous name.

I would have preferred the film to be set in it's original time and location rather than be modernised.

Sadly the James Bond films are an example of how Holllywood distorts books and were a complete disaster with the exception of the first two and did not follow the books at all. For example, Bond was born in 1920, served in WWII as a Commander in the navy and all the stories took place between 1955 and 1963. They were excellent books and I read them all during my schooldays as they were released. How tragic that Ian Fleming died in 1963. He would have been appalled. If School For Scoundrels follows the same treatment then I am equally sure that Ustinov will turn in his grave.
