I am an aspiring author but everytime I start a story i like I can't move on with it and have no ispiration to keep writing about it. Does anyone know how to get past that stage of writing?! Or have any intresting ideas that I might stick with? That'd be great! Thanks alot!

Ok, I have seven books published so I'll tell you what works for me.

1. When the initial impetus is gone, that's the time to outline your story. It's not written in stone, but it will give you some idea where you need to go with it and how it'll get to the end you want.

2. Do background detail on your characters. Where are they coming from and what do they want? How does it fit in with your plot?

3. Take a good look at the conflict in your story. Do you have a clearly defined main character? What happens to him? What does he want? What obstacles can you put in his path? Who is his buddy? It's always good to give a main character a foil they can talk to.

4. Stick with ONE story and sweat it out. If you drop one for another and another and another, you'll never finish a story. Getting that first draft finished is an achievement and the first step toward getting published. Notice I said first draft. You'll still have to revise it so don't sweat over every little word. It doesn't have to be perfect in the first draft.

5. A good way to keep from spinning your wheels is the one step back approach. When you sit down to write, reread the previous chapter and do any little tweaking you can think of. Use that to jump into the next chapter. DO NOT go back beyond the previous chapter unless you've been away a while. You could get caught in a revision loop. Remember that you'll be revising the whole thing when you get done.

Hope that helps.

It helps to work it out in your mind before you start to write. If you can't think of where the story is going, it's obviously going nowhere. When I have a problem like that, I think about as I'm falling asleep. Sometimes I get an answer, other times I just have to keep working on it, or give up and try something else.

The problem is that most people think writing should always be "fun" and inspirational, but the truth is, it's a lot of hard, frustrating work. I suggest you outline your story first, and keep revising drafts. You don't need inspiration to keep writing, you need commitment.
Also, try reading some how-to books on writing- there are hundres.
Good luck.

a good story does not form fully bloomed from from the mind of the author but it needs planning and organisation. it would help if you did an outline of the plot, characters, setting of the proposed story before you do the actual thing and after you have done it, you need need to edit it by reading it and correcting the inconsistancies and contradictions in the story. hope that this gives you some ideas lto help you along.
God bless,

I don't know, that is quite personal and unique to the indivisual.

I can tell you however, that if you ever decide to write screenplays the best way to learn is to go pick up a copy of another one and learn the basic format.

They actually sell a "Dummies." book for it. Maybe they do for writing story's too? Check out Amazon.

I am a strange writer and I don't think I could teach you my methods. other than to say you have to be half crazy and a bit odd.

Continue with your story and keep on writing. Inspiration or not, continue and make plots but before you write anything. make a web of the entire plot of the story. You will have new ideas you want and it will get confusing if you just begin to write

I have one book thats being edited right now, and another I'm working on another. When I lose my muse I just leave it alone. I come back the next day look at it, reread a bit, and if I don't get another idea then I just put it away. I do it everyday untill something bumps me on the head. If you need anymore help, or maybe we can bounce ideas, email me.
