Windows Vista hasn't been released yet, but you can upgrade to it later.

You can get a computer like that for around $700 if you look for sales at places like Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Depot, CompUSA, etc. Check the Sunday ads.

I would get a computer with a well known brand name like HP.

Get one with a dual core Intel or AMD processor. (I prefer AMD's dual core, but really both are very fast)

This computer (or the ones I have seen) will probably have a much bigger hard drive than 100gb. More like 250-300gb.

And of course at this price it should come with a 17 inch LCD monitor.

Whatever you do, do Not buy a Dell! What a piece of junk!!! I wish I had purchased a Mac, but it was just too costly at the time. Everyone I know with HP or Gateway is really happy. Go to a price comparison site like : www.pricegrabbers.com or call around to Best Buys, Circuit City, Office Depot, etc. There are so many ways to pick and choose the processor, ram, etc. and vital features along with different sales and rebate offers. Get extended warranties on hardware for sure! I would not buy a floor model, but friends of mine have and not only was the price reduced but the computer has been fine.
If you are a student or have a friend or close relative that is, they can purchase it for you at tremendous savings.
It is defintely worth looking into. Good luck!

Get a Dell E521, customize it with what you want. For your price range this is your best bet. Just remember that Windows Vista is not out yet so you cannot get it, and you only need a DVD Burner since it will also do CD burning.

the best way to do this is to go by the nearest comptuer store (u can survey around for the best suiteable price) and tell them how u want your computer configuered adn its mcuh cheaper/more conveinient this way instead of buying a branded computer
