people who have extra wealth,usually live expensive lives, large mortgage, their shopping bill will be very large they buy shares,and higher class goods,they couldnt manage on what an average pensioner has to live on,or a young single mother,they have no idea how other people live,there are the exceptions,of course in any society.but ministers spend money in a way we wouldnt,they go first class on planes.
the money wasted by these people could keep a third world going for a year.

Investments to perpetuate it. Donations to recieve accolades and affirmations of their self percieved greatness. Material things, to let those who haven't already realised it, that you're on a much higher plane than an MP. Acts of outright nobility to stay the brick holding hands of disenchanted, working class masses from bludgeoning their children to death so they don't have to look at more of them.

maintaining their lifestyle and making sure they make even more money by investing it. people with a lot of money tend to spend it on two things; display of wealth and accumulating more wealth
maybe the better question is; how much is enough and if you spend all your time and money selfishly, shouldn't you be charged with treason?
