try to keep my hopes, and dreams alive? Or do I just keep on doing the same mundane things I always do? Are we just biological constructs that are here only to reproduce?Or can we realize the potential of being more than the sum of our parts? Please, try not to just give standard religious answers.

Of course, you should always keep your dreams alive. You may need to make them more realistic. When we're young, we tend to dream in terms of grand schemes. We want to be famous, or change the world in a meaningful way. Unfortunately, these opportunities are only given to very few of us. The rest of us must remain content with our lot within the majority.
If, for example, you wanted to become a great poet (or anything else), you will find it's more difficult to get there than you think. But if you truly love poetry, you shouldn't stop writing it, reading it, and keeping it as a part of your life. No point in not doing the things you love. And who knows? Eventually you might end up actually becoming a great poet, even if it doesn't happen right away. You might also end up working with what you love, even if that doesn't happen, and you'll certainly be happier this way.
So in a nutshell, always keep doing what you love doing, no matter what others tell you. You'll eventually find out the true reward comes from doing these things, not from the praise you may get from others for doing them.

I spent the vast majority of my life doing the things that I had to instead of the things I wanted.
I woke up one morning and realized that I had more years behind me than I had ahead of me. I also realized that I had forsaken all my dreams and desires in order to do what others thought I should.
I have since decided that I live to accomplish certain things. Things that give my life meaning and purpose. Things that offer some form of fulfillment.
That's not to say I have abandoned my responsibilities to my family, job and others it's just that my life has been redirected to the important things in life.
And that is living what years I have left doing those things I always dreamed of. Not all as some require a younger person and a higher level of education. But those that give me a reason for getting up every morning.

Make more realistic goals, but keep those dreams alive. Wanted to be a musician? There's nothing that says you can't have a garage band and find satisfaction in it. Wanted to be a writer? That takes daily discipline, but it is never too late. Laura Ingalls Wilder didn't start the Little House books until she was 60.
Wanted to be an artist? Grandma Moses started very late. I heard she was 80.

Want to travel the world? Go into space? Go deeper into a volcano than anyone else?

Whatever your dream is, you can still do it.

Be thankful for the mundane, because if something bad happens, you will be begging for the mundane. Just do the best you can do in your life and be thankful for what you do have. People in third world countries can only have dreams that will probably never come true. Like decent food, water, and shelter.

After who is dead? You don't have to keep on doing the same mundane things, but you can do whatever you want to. We're not here for any particular purpose. You have to define your own purposes, and pursue them any way that you want to. Or, if you prefer, you can let someone else define your purpose in life -someone like a religious or political figure or philosopher- and, if you wish, you can make them your master and spend the rest of your life as their servant. It's up to you, to let someone else tell you how to run your life or decide it for yourself.

I'm not sure who you mean by 'they'. I think we are just biological constructs, but that doesn't mean we can't strive to realize the potential you mention - for ourselves and our future generations. I believe we should.
