There are some schools in US who do require uniforms. For example, my old elementary school started requiring uniforms to reduce crime and discrimination. But there is a big concern with freedom to express ones self. I think a big issue also is with marketing too. With uniforms in US there will be a major decrease in profit with children's clothes and other concerns as well.

I'm in a college program that requires a uniform. They require us to wear scrubs to school. I think it makes it easier for me to decide what to wear in the morning and everyone in my class wears the same thing so our focus in school is more on school and not on, "Oh look what she's wearing!" or "Why is she wearing that?" or "I wish I had enough money for those shoes."

Some public schools do require a uniform, and many private and religious schools do too.

But the thing about US schools is that they are not centrally governed. Each state makes rules for its own schools, and within each state there can be hundreds of school districts which make additional rules.

A school district is essentially the local school system for a town or small group of towns, which ensures a high degree of local control. Local control of schools is viewed as desirable by most Americans. Some conservatives even want to abolish the federal Department of Education because they see it as a threat to local control.

So some school districts do choose to require uniforms, but they are a minority. Most schools let students wear what they want, although they do enforce their own broad dress codes (e.g. no hats inside the school, no ripped/revealing clothes, etc.)

Before the 60s girls were not allowed to wear pants to school. Then came female rights movements and the rule was stopped because it was considered unfair to women and that all should be created equally. Private schools have a uniform or strict dress codes. Most public schools however do not, but they do have a dress code in order to keep students dressing tasteful (i.e. no drug paraphernalia or skanky outfits) The reason this is so is because public schools are run by the goverment and putting a dresscode in affect would violate the constuiton because you are not letting us choose what we want to wear (violation of freedom)

some schools in the u.s. currently have uniforms, some don't. i think uniforms in some schools were never started, so that's why they don't have them now. i think having uniforms is stupid because it doesn't allow the students to express themselves the way they should. i mean, i do believe in having a dress code b/c some forms of expression can be offending. but i think uniforms just makes every kid the same as the next - where's the personality?? where's the freedom of choice????

I artwork in a public college the position uniforms are needed, and extremely it has no longer solved the topic matters uniforms are meant to remedy. There are nonetheless subject matters with bullying, youthful ones making exciting of different youthful ones, individuality (with little products like belts or socks), etc., etc. in case you question me, i imagine we could continually mission a lot less about making each man or woman look an same and larger about education youthful ones to settle in case you're diverse from themselves. have self belief me, once you get into the guy operating international, someone will continually have a better suited automobile, better suited living house, better suited television, etc. We only could learn a thanks to settle for an additional and ourselves only the way we are. And as a thanks to attempt this, i imagine toddlers prefer to benefit tolerance/acceptance beginning at an early age.
