First make sure it is dead. Then think about the part you want to save from the skin so you don't slice into a significant valuable part. Get the appropriate sharp knife.

Stick the knife into its vent hole and slice toward the front opening the belly and toward the rear to the tip of the tail. Pull the skin off the flesh toward the front. When you get to the feet you need to try pulling the feet from the skin. When you get toward the toes you will need to do some cutting to detach skin from foot. Pull toward the head again and get all of the skin off to the back of the head including the front feet. Now think about what you want to do with the head (cut it off as a separate item or go on with the skinning). If you want to keep skinning you will have to reach inside and cut any points of attachment. You are never going to get the head skin off in good shape particularly if you are just starting in this removal business. Pull toward the snout cutting it loose inside until it is all off.

You might want to practice with a snake since they have fewer protrusions to complicate the process.
