Funny, that happened to me and this was my conclusion. I reread the script for the last time...((told myself I couldn't read it again) I then rewrote the part I was having trouble with. Also, in my inspiration as I started to write again...I came up with three different conclusions to the novel. At that point it became obvious that I had a sequel to my story. I then started on that ....thus to my amazement....I then went back and changed some of the material that I originally wrote.. All in all...it was a good year to just sit out and think about where things were going and to develop a sense of maturity of the happenings and events in my storyline. I think you will be inspired if you just started at the point where you wrote about something terrible happening and go with that. It is time...my friend....try it.....

Do take another look at the chapter that's bothering you. Unless it's absolutely necessary for that to happen, you've probably killed your story. It may be you can have your main character see that happen to someone who is with him. That would up his desire for justice/revenge.
You can also try interviewing your characters to see what they think. You can get all sorts of background detail and a better grasp of your characters by doing this and it helps you jump start the writing.
The final trick is something I just have to do sometimes. It's called butt in chair. Set a timer for an hour and sit down and write. Sweat it out. If you haven't written in the first hour, set the timer for another hour. You should have something written by then even if it is not in that part of the book.
By the way, I left my hero pinned to the floor with a sword through his chest. He got kind of quiet..... Then his father took over the story and I got no break.

I think that your first answerer had it right ... try rewriting the first chapter so that it is not so gruesome (you don't want people to be afraid of finishing your book because the first chapter scares them too much!) ... or else try to think of some happy ending for the novel so that the initial horrible event doesn't seem quite so horrible after all because it somehow all works out in the end.

OK.
1-Store this beginning of a book in a dry place, and forget about it.
2-Start a new book from scratch and finish it.
3-retrieve your old frightening script and ask your publisher to append it to the new book with its history (how you couldnt read and write anymore etc...) as a curiosity of your character .
3- Let the people know when you're finished so we can read you.
Man whow ! we are curious to know...

Reading is a pleasure. Even the reading of sad or horrible stories should be pleasant. You are the one, who can change anything in that world of immagination. You should do it or just throw it away.

You may be having a block because it has personal significance to you, is there someone in your life you're feeling animosity toward? Try walking a "labyrinth-look on web site www.graceepiscopal.com for explanation of what it is and where to find one in your area. p.s. could also speak to a counselor about that block.

You're obviously on the wrong track. Start something else. If you feel that badly about it, delete it and move on. You've changed since then. There's no point in flogging a dead horse.

just don't think about the first part when you write the rest of the story- you probably know it very well, so write the next part and if need be, tie it inot the first part
