So, how long does it take? Lightning struck our oak tree a few monthes ago and it has turned brown and the leaves are falling. When is it in danger of falling?

If the tree is just dead and no major structural damage was done to the trunk, it would have to rot before falling. That would take years. Sometimes the arc travels under the bark (where it is moist) and causes an explosion of steam that creates a charded groove the length of the trunk that can weaken the tree. That would be clearly visible. If so, have a tree removal contractor assess the urgency.

Hi. The roots may have been killed. The tree will fall when they can no longer resist the wind.

It is probably dead, and it's hard to tell when it will fall down. The best thing to do would have someone remove it.
