I think mine might be pregnant. Do they just have the babies where-ever they please?

They will make a nest. You need to provide her with some sort of bedding like paper towels, hamster fluff, grass or hay, etc. She will shred it and make her nest when she is ready to have her babies.

one guideline to consider is that a hamster takes between 18-22 days to conceive. so figure that into when your hamster might've been with a male hamster. if she doesn't have pups after this time, then she wasn't pregnant.

some hamster moms get really big toward the end of their pregnancy~~ their body shape makes it obvious.

and they do make nests~~ if you haven't had her for a long time, it's a good idea ot give her some kind of enclosed area like those fiber huts they sell in petstores. then give her lots of bedding like carefresh or another paper-based bedding, and mound some hay like timothy hay on top of the fiber hut. this way, she'll feel safe and have privacy. because if she is pregnant, she wants her babies to be away from prying eyes and hands.

if she does have bbs, you can't touch her or the bbs for 2 weeks because this might cause her to cannabalize her babies. just a precaution.

Last years in my old school we use to have lab rats to feed to the snakes. (Lab rats are basically hamsters) and she wouldnt make a "nest" or anything. But umm what she would do is like kinda dig a whole in the hay and there she would have the babies. Oh and btw if she has babies dont touch them if you do she might eat them

usually they pick a quiet corner away from "traffic". If you seriously want to start this then I suggest you call a pet shop or research about hamster breeding on line. Know that you should increase their diet and add vitamins. You should call a vet and ask your questions; books, magazines sometimes contain outdated info. Realize this though, if you want breeding behavior you most likely will loose the sweet pet quality of your little bundles. I'd think hard about starting down the breeding road, or just leave them alone with no additions to anything just to see what will happen. It really depends on what you want longterm. Please remember though a breeding pet looses the bond it has with it's human owner.

Yes they do make a nest. Though being a rodent they are nasty little creatures sometimes and will actually consume their own babies. Yuck! Have no idea why, but they weren't so cute after that! & we didn't touch any & they looked fine so who knows. keep an eye on yours to make sure the momma doesn't do this.

with my hamster, we had no idea she was pregnant until we came home from school and she had given birth. we had just bought her from the pet store a little while before that, so i dont think they make nests or anything before hand.
