They try to make it sound "pretty" or "original" and it backfires. What really gets me is when they sit there and hold a note for five minutes and you're sitting there saying "Would you hurry up?!"

Fame is everything for a singer or any kind of entertainer. So many of them see the ball games as a way to gain more publicity so they try to be original with their song and hope people will remember them for that. If it works out, others may even come up to them and ask them to teach them the song in that way. Its another way to make more money so they try to be as original as possible.

Because people are deceived by thinking they are something their not, but atleast people try. Better than not trying at all! It is what is in a persons heart. If more peoples hearts were into what they are singing than it wouldn't be murder!

I am not sure they are butching it on purpose, however, if I knew I could not sing well, I would let go of the pride and decline.

I saw Rosanne get up and sing it and that was just sad! I feel she did butcher it. She is a comedian and thought it was funny, in my opinion.

I need to agree with you, as Roseanne Barr should have been shot for what she done with it, though to be fair Jessica Simpson tried a wee bit too hard and thus made it sound terrible.

I don't think they're trying ~ I'm sure it can be very nerve-wrecking to get up in front of hundreds or thousands of people to sing.
