u will need to get nero vision express since thats the converter program there is lots of other free programs out their that do the same job, eg if u goto http://www.videohelp.com/tools?toolsearch=&s=&orderby=Name&hits=50&convert=AVI+to+DVD&dvdauthorfeatures=&Submit=Search+or+List+tools

Nero doesn't do that... you need a converter... Nero will place the video files on a DVD in their original format as 'data' in data disc format.

Something like DVD Santa is perfect for turning video files into DVD format AND it will burn the DVD for you as well.

Use nerovision make movie load in file click export at the top right hand box pick file type you want dvd/mpeg2/mpeg/svcd/vcd/avi/divx click config box pick stereo/dolby 2.0/dolby 5.1 click export you have your video file best quality is mpeg2 dolby 2.0 or 5.1if you want to burn the file as a dvd download cucusoft mpeg to dvd free at http://www.AfterDawn.com under dvd tools put the mpeg2 file into the prog click convert you have a multi region dvd to burn the dvd use nero video/pictures DVD Video files add the contents of the Video_ts folder to the prog and burn you have your dvd you can also download nero 7.2b from same site nero 6 is a bit dated now

nero will do this if you have the dvd plugin. Select make dvd movie open your avi file in nero express and convert to dvd...this could take several hours to do dependent on the spped of your processor etc.

you need nero 6 or higher, open quickstart, select dvd, select create dvd. when this opens drag the video file into the window and it will convert it for you. just follow the instructions its easy.
