The braided cable sounds like the oxygen sensor harness. Make sure it is not shorted to any thing and connected properly. This will not create a miss. Check your firing order and make sure you did not crack any of the spark plugs.

Change your plug wires as well and get a timing light and check out your timing and firing order. Make sure your plugs are gapped properly also. You cannot just shove them in there, know what I mean?

As far as smoldering braided cable...get it up off of whatever is hot, probably the exhaust manifold. Route it around and get a longer length if need be. Good luck.

the subsequent step is to analyze for spark. Pull the plug wires off of the plugs one after the other. Use an previous spark plug contained in the cord rubber boot, and carry it about a 0.5 inch far flung from the block or different sturdy bare metallic at the same time as the engine is being cranked over some turns (use rubber take care of pliers to circumvent wonder). you ought to work out a spark leap from the plug to the metallic. do this for all 4 wires, one after the other. in case you get a spark at all of us yet no longer all, replace the wires for the single/s that do not spark. in case you get spark in any respect 4, you're prepared to analyze the timing. in case you get no spark in any respect: once you replace each and each of the wires and nonetheless no spark, then there's a distributor mission. once you do or have this carried out (verify for spark) we can bypass from there.
