I just got a job to sell fine jewelry at JCPenny's. Unfortunly I know nothing about jewelry except that it is shiny :) . Anyone have any good starter points or tips to get me a step ahead???

invest in yourself - enroll in the Gemological Institute of America's Distance Learning Program. They are the industry experts. They have an excellent basic program, the AJP, which runs about $500, and it covers everything. Penny's might even cover the cost, or reimburse you - I would ask your HR rep.
