ok. I went to one in May, and all they want to do is get your money. really, I got called back, and they said that the wanted to put me in acting classes so Icould be really good, but the acting classes cost like $1000. Their spammers, really.
But heres what I did at the audition:
1) you go into a room, and they tell you a little bit about John Roberts Power.
2) they give you a cold read (a few lines from a commercial, mine was Hersey's chocolate)
3) you go into an interveiw with someone, and they ask like what your expiriance and hobbies are.
4) they give you a phone number to call after 10 in the morning the next day.
We called them back, and they said I was one out of the three that they liked the best, and they told us about the acting classes and all of that stuff.
But all they want is your money. you (most likey) won't make it on TV.
But overall its a really fun expiriance.
Message me about it after you go!
Good luck .

Do yourself a favor and DO NOT GO. If you are serious about acting, then JRP is about the worst thing you can do. They are a scam which preys on the dreams of honest people. Anybody and everybody in the entertainment industry (ie. casting directors, managers, agents, etc) will just laugh if you put JRP on you resume as training. It is an absolute waste of money. Please, please, please don't go. I guarantee that they will tell you your great, you have what it takes, and they can make things happen for you - and it's all a bunch of crap.
If you want to enter this business, then you need a few things. The first being thick skin cause this is about the hardest and most fustrating industry in the world. You will get turned down (not hired) the vast, vast majority of the time you audition. Don't take it personally. Sometimes you may have just had a bad audition, and other times, you simply aren't the type they are looking for. I've had several auditions where the casting director told me flat out, "You're good, but you look too young." Nothing I can do about that.
Second, you need a good quality headshot by a professional headshot photographer - not a snapshot by your mom, not glamor shots, or anything like that. Remember, your headshot is your business card. A bad shot says you're not serious about acting. You get what you pay for. My last headshots were $400, and my photographer rocks (if you're in LA, then email me and I'll let you know who he is). In a nutshell, the shot should look like you - just like you when you walk into the casting studio. Few things piss casting directors off more than actors who look nothing like their headshot as the CD called them in based upon a certain look, and if they don't really look that way, then it's a waste of everybody's time.
Third is training. Good training - NOT JRP. This will vary depending upon where you are located. A good resource is the backstage.com message boards. They have a section for schools and training - lots of good info.
Fourth is to start building a resume. With the tools listed above, you are now set to start auditioning for almost anything you can. Stuff like community theatre, studend films and local productions/commercials are an excellend way to being the resume building.
Fifth, continue on and most of all - HAVE FUN. If it isn't fun, why do it??? Certainly not for the most as the majority of SAG members (95%) make less then $7000 per year, so do it cause you love it.
By the way, did I mention to STAY AWAY FROM JRP???

I have had students who attended these auditions...against my advice to the contrary.
From what I've heard, you'll be showered with praise and admiration at the audition, and told that a great, brilliant, and lucrative career in show business can be YOURS...if you'll just agree to pay them a bunch of money up front for photos, promotional services, etc.
The fundamental rule of actor representation is, and has always been: don't EVER pay in advance for agent/manager services. These people are paid a percentage of an actor's earnings for work that THEY secure. If they ask for a penny up front, it's a scam. Period, end of story.
Good luck.

Go for it! You never know... Most of the winners said they never expected to make it so far... Remember Colton Dixon from either season 11 I think, wasn't even gonna try out. He tried out in season 10 and didn't make it as far as he wanted, so he decided to just give up. He went with his sister to her audition, and the judges remembered him, and begged him to audition, particularly Jlo. Well he did try out, and he won like 5th or something. So, just try! You'll get to meet the judges, whoever they may be, probably pretty famous. And be on tv? I would audition for that reason alone. I'll see ya on tv! Wait, who are you, if you don't mind telling us? I might be talking to the future American Idol! :)
